501(c)(3) Charitable Organization
FRRD members are volunteers who train constantly to be ready for numerous situations.
We never charge for searches, so donations are greatly appreciated!
Donations help in many ways
FRRD's single biggest expense each calendar year is insurance. We carry both liability insurance to protect our members and the board of directors, as well as the volunteer's version of worker's compensation insurance in the event of an accident or injury while at practice.
Radios, antennas, rechargeable batteries, and battery chargers - these are a necessity for communication in the field during a mission. We supply all members with handheld “packset” radios to carry in the field, and senior members with car-mounted, higher power radios to aid in coordination of resources at the beginning of and during a mission. The majority of our missions are in the mountains where cell phone coverage is spotty at best.
To keep our members safe as well as to aid in finding subjects buried in an avalanche, provided the subjects are also wearing beacons.
On a very limited basis, there is usually some funding available to reimburse a portion of the cost incurred by members when they attend outside training programs.
On the rare occasion that one of our dogs is injured in training or while searching, we strive to make some funds available to help the handler cover a portion of the medical expense.
